Common Questions

Everything you need to know about qualifying for an ESA letter and understanding your rights.

💡 General Questions

What is the difference between an ESA and a Service Dog?

An Emotional Support Animal (ESA) provides comfort to an individual with a mental health condition but is not trained to perform specific tasks. ESAs are protected under Housing laws. A Psychiatric Service Dog (PSD) is individually trained to perform tasks (like deep pressure therapy) and is protected under both Housing and Air Travel laws (ACAA).

Is this letter legitimate?

Yes. We connect you with state-licensed mental health professionals (LCSW, LMFT, Psychologists). The letter they issue is a clinical document signed by a licensed provider, which is the only legal way to qualify for an ESA under the Fair Housing Act.

How long does the process take?

Once you complete the assessment and payment, your file is sent to a clinician immediately. Most reviews are completed within 24 hours. If approved, you can download your digital documents instantly.

⚖️ Housing & Legal

Does this guarantee my landlord will accept it?

The Fair Housing Act requires landlords to make reasonable accommodations for ESAs, waiving no-pet policies and pet fees. However, landlords can deny requests if the animal poses a direct threat or if the building has 4 or fewer units and the landlord lives there. If your letter is lawfully denied, we offer a full refund.

Do I need to register my animal in a database?

Legally, no. The 'Doctor's Letter' is the only document required by law. However, we provide a registration certificate and ID number (DIN) as a supplementary tool to help landlords verify your status quickly via our portal.

Can I have more than one ESA?

Yes, but you must demonstrate a distinct therapeutic need for each animal. Our clinicians review these requests on a case-by-case basis.

✈️ Travel (Flying)

Can I fly with my ESA?

As of 2021, airlines are no longer required to accept ESAs. They ARE required to accept Psychiatric Service Dogs (PSDs). If you qualify for a PSD, you may fly with your dog in the cabin free of charge.

Do you help with DOT forms?

Yes. If you are approved for a PSD letter, our support team can guide you on how to fill out the Department of Transportation (DOT) form required by airlines.
